The easiest program to earn in and the hardest to get approved for. A flat 2x on everything, a 1-cent floor that always works, and 22 transfer partners that reach every major alliance.
Reviewed September 20, 2026 · written by Justin RasmussenThis is the program I recommend to people who want points without a hobby. A flat 2x on every purchase means no category tracking, and the eraser feature means you are never stuck. If you want to go deeper, the transfer list has quietly become one of the strongest around — 22 partners, including several that unlock every major alliance.
| How you redeemSAME 75,000 MILES | Typical valuePER MILE | What that's worth |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer to an airline partner, good award | 1.7¢ – 2.0¢+ | $1,275 – $1,500+ |
| Book through Capital One Travel | 1.0¢ | $750 |
| Erase a travel purchase (statement credit) | 1.0¢ | $750 |
| Cash back or gift cards | 0.5¢ – 1.0¢ | $375 – $750 |
Ranges reflect typical outcomes booking for clients, not guarantees. The 1-cent floor applies to travel purchases only; general cash back redeems lower. Reviewed September 20, 2026.
For a contractor or small business owner, the appeal here is simplicity. There are no bonus categories to chase, which means no spend goes to waste on a 1x card by accident. That's worth more than it sounds for anyone who doesn't want to think about which card to pull out.
| Card | Annual fee | What it earns | Transfers? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venture X personal | Premium | 2x on everything, 10x hotels and cars and 5x flights through Capital One Travel; annual travel credit and anniversary miles cover most of the fee | Yes |
| Venture X Business business | Premium | 2x on everything, same elevated earning through Capital One Travel, no fee for employee cards | Yes |
| Venture Rewards personal | Moderate | 2x on everything, 5x on hotels and cars through Capital One Travel | Yes |
| Venture Business business | Moderate | 2x on every business purchase, free employee cards with spending limits | Yes |
| VentureOne personal | None | 1.25x on everything — the cheapest way to keep a transferable-miles account alive | Yes |
Earning rates and credits change; confirm current terms on the issuer's page before applying. Capital One's cash-back cards can't transfer on their own, but their rewards convert to miles if you hold one of the above. Reviewed September 20, 2026.
This guide is about how the program works, not which card to apply for. Welcome offers change constantly, so they live in one place and one place only — kept current, with an honest note on each link about whether I earn anything from it.

Partner list and ratios verified September 20, 2026 against The Points Guy's partner tracker and Capital One's published transfer terms. Minimum transfer is generally 1,000 miles. All transfers are one-way and irreversible — confirm the award is available before you move anything.
Because approvals come so slowly, Capital One rewards deliberate planning rather than opportunism. Pick the card you actually want and apply for that one — you won't get another chance for half a year.
Turkish publishes an award chart rather than pricing dynamically, and the numbers on it are low enough that United-operated domestic and transatlantic flights can cost a fraction of what MileagePlus asks. The program's customer service is famously difficult and some bookings require a phone call, which is exactly why the awards stay available to people willing to do the work.
The same strength it has with Amex, available here at 1:1. On a transatlantic business-class ticket, avoiding carrier-imposed surcharges can be worth several hundred dollars in cash on top of the miles saved.
Qatar's business-class product is widely regarded as the best in the sky, and Privilege Club is the direct route to it. This is one of the clearest cases where Capital One reaches something Chase simply cannot.
Rotating monthly discounts of 25–50% on selected routes. If you can move your dates, this is the least effortful outsized redemption in the program.
Wyndham's fixed-tier award pricing extends to vacation rentals, which occasionally produces a genuinely good number on a whole house for a family. It is situational, and it is the only hotel partner here I'd bother checking.
No, not while your account is open and in good standing. If you close the card, you generally forfeit any miles still in the account — so transfer them out or move them to another Capital One card that earns miles before you cancel.
Yes, if you also hold a miles-earning card such as the Venture, Venture X or VentureOne. Cash back earned on cards like the Savor or Quicksilver can be converted into transferable miles in the same account, which is how a lot of people quietly build a bigger balance than they realize.
Capital One will generally approve you for only one new card every six months, across both personal and business products. It is the tightest application pacing of the four big issuers, so a Capital One card is something you plan for rather than add on impulse.
The Venture, Venture X, VentureOne, Venture Business and Venture X Business. Capital One's cash-back cards cannot transfer on their own, but their rewards can be converted to miles if you hold one of the transfer-capable cards in the same account.
For most people who travel a few times a year, yes — the annual travel credit and the anniversary miles bonus together offset most of the fee before you count lounge access, and the card earns 2x on absolutely everything. It is the easiest premium card in the market to break even on, which is a genuinely unusual thing to be able to say.
It simply doesn't have those relationships — no US legacy carrier is on the list. In practice this matters less than it sounds, because you can reach all three alliances through partners: Turkish and Avianca for Star Alliance (United), Flying Blue for SkyTeam (Delta), and British Airways, Qatar or Finnair for Oneworld (American).

Most people end up holding cards from two of these four. Knowing which two is the whole game.
One approval every six months means the card you pick matters. I'll map your spend against the right one.
